Nikka Whisky Distilling Co. Ltd. has been founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, the “Father of Japanese Whisky”. He was the first Japanese to go to Scotland in order to study the art of making great whisky. His family had a sake brewery since 1733, and originally the plan was for him to follow in the footsteps of his father. But fascination for Whisky was stronger, and so he moved to Scotland to study chemical scienses at the university of Glasgow. Numerous traineeships in well-known distelleries allowed him to learn from the best, and to be educated as Master Blender.
